SPECTATOR GUIDE

Where to Watch:

A criterium by its nature is spectator-friendly. The Downers Grove course is 1.2 miles long, which means racers will be by each point dozens of times during the 62-mile race. By far the most popular spot, if you're going on sheer frequency of "ooohs" and "aahs," will be the corner of Maple and Main streets, where the figure-eight course intersects itself. That junction is also close enough to the finish (at the corner of Grove and Main) that the more eager spectators may make their own dash to the finish line to catch the sprint. That is, if they don't mind swimming through the sea of people.

Where to Park:

Five parking lots are located close to the race course: one on each side of Burlington Avenue, one at the Village Hall and one where Webster Street runs into Randall Street. Then there's the pipe dream: one located across Grove Street from Fishel Park, within one block of the start/finish line. Get there early. For those who'd rather not drive, Metra trains run into Downers Grove, near the course. For a timetable, visit www.metrarail.com.
